A REMEDY FOR SHANKING

There are causes that bring on shanking but I don’t want to describe them since it makes a player more conscious of what happens when you shank and its best a player doesn’t have it on the mind.

Shanking most occurs on short shots to the green. To cure a shank problem the golfer should swing the club in an upright arc, keeping the hands exactly on the line of flight. At the end of the backswing, which should be very short, the butt of the shaft should be pointing directly toward the ground. On the follow through, short too, the butt of the shaft should be pointing directly toward the ground. Furthermore, the ball must not be scooped with locked wrists. Hit the ball with a natural breaking of the wrists.
