UNDERSTANDING PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE GOLF SWING

Looking at a series of sequence photographs of the golf swing in a golf magazine enables you to understand the various positions of the body, arms and legs.

Sequence photographs numbering around 9 are the best to look at as they are like ‘slow motion’ of a video film. The series of photos should start from the address position, takeaway, three quarter backswing, and top of backswing prior to hitting area impact, impact, just after the hit, three quarter follow through and then the completion of the swing.

Always take notice of the position of the legs in relation to the arms in the backswing – the legs are following the arms. In the downswing the legs are leading the arms. The balance of the body especially the footwork on the completion of the follow through is very important. At the address position in a photograph the hands should be slightly ahead of the clubface position. Now refer to a photograph that shows the hit area and you will see that the hands and clubface have returned to the same position.

Looking at a series of photos you can also observe that the golfer leads with the left side and the power comes from turning the right side.
